Drummer Nasar Abadey is a versatile, yet distinctive musician who’s band’s stylistic flexibility, really stands out as well as their masterful pacing, through which they thoroughly explore ideas, grooves, and moods with an entrancing sense of direction and organic evolution

Still in his early 20s, drummer Kush Abadey has been enjoying a fast–paced and eclectic career for years. Kush Abadey is a phenomenal young band leader, who’s group followed his father’s performance.

Januwa Moja and Uzikee Nelson Artist Exhibit
The James E. Lewis Museum of Art presented an exhibition entitled “Celebrating Our Common Heritage in the African Diaspora – Featuring the Art of Januwa Moja and Uzikee Nelson”. This exhibition featured the works of artist couple: Januwa Moja, wearable art designer and fashion icon, and her husband, globally renowned sculptor Uzikee Nelson. The exhibition featured a variety of expressions initiated through vibrant and artistic cultural exchange denoting the artist’s travels in the African Diaspora. Programming included an Afro-Cuban film festival, lecture referencing a fascinating story of escape to freedom, a panel discussion honoring Women’s History Month, culminating with a Family Fun Day Festival.

The Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival (MAFJ) is presented in the true spirit and intent of the former East Coast Jazz Festival (ECJF). Founded in 1992 by vocalist/vocal educator Ronnie Wells, for the next 15 years the ECJF was produced by and benefited The Fish Middleton Jazz Scholarship Fund, Inc. (FMJS). ECJF was originally created in honor of Elmore “Fish” Middleton, a Washington, DC jazz radio programmer, whose commitment to promoting jazz music and supporting emerging jazz artists became the guiding principle behind the festival.
